ETS De Neuter toy trade catalogue 1995

ETS DE NEUTER is a French toy distributor that has been in operation for more than 60 years. The following scans are from its 1995 Christmas trade catalogue and feature many of the big name toy and game brands. The front cover has a wintry, foresty, Christmas wonderland feel to it, while the back cover shows a range of cool merchandise for popular 90s film The Lion King. In between these covers are more than 80 pages of well-presented toy photos and dioramas, making this catalogue a joy to look through.

As well as toys and games, ETS De Neuter distributed household, sports, leisure and electrical goods, which the catalogue also features – but we’ll save those goodies for another time. For now, sit back and enjoy these cool 90s toys. Click if you need to go bigger. Thanks for looking.

Play Ballet Dancing Ballerinas

Play Ballet Dancing Ballerinas was a line of 6 ½ inch dolls presented on decorative stages which could be glided across a surface to enable the dolls to spin and twirl. The dolls could also be removed from their stages for individual handplay. Characters were sold individually or in couples known as the Play Ballet Dance Partners, of which there were 6 collectable sets. Stages could be connected enabling each couple to dance together. Images are from the 1992 Galoob trade catalogue.

I’m not sure how successful these ballerina dolls were, but I think they’re pretty adorable, and the catalogue photo designs from Galoob are beautifully made… though I must admit the darker side of me can’t help but conjure a few images of Aronofsky’s Black Swan

Trash Bag Bunch by Galoob

Trash Bag Bunch was a line of toy figures released by Galoob in 1992. The ingenious gimmick with these toys was that they came in special ‘garbage bags’ and you couldn’t see which figure you were purchasing until you got home and immersed the bags in water. The bags would then fizz and dissolve to reveal your figure.

There were 36 figures to collect – 18 Disposers (the good guys) = the filth-fighters standing for all that is clean, and 18 Trashors (the bad guys) = evil dump dwellers fighting dirty and mean. Figures included monsters, robots and alien creatures.

A Grip ‘n Dip Bagger playset was also released in 1992. Essentially a hand-operated crane enabling you to re-bag your trash figures.

The pictures below are from the 1992 Galoob trade catalogue. Click to enhance.
