1983 Airfix catalogue France
This 1983 French market catalogue for the famous Airfix brand is full of eighties model-making goodness from Star Wars to Dukes of Hazzard to the Fall Guy to space themes, nature and racing cars. The following scans are a non-exhaustive look at just some of the pages from this great catalogue.
1979/80 Miro-Meccano Games Catalogue
This French catalogue by the Miro-Meccano company features many well known board games that were popular not just in France but worldwide. The cover of the catalogue can be translated as Discover, rediscover Miro-Meccano games. Featured on the cover and throughout the pages is superhero brainy type character Miro who presents each game and holds in his hands themed elements such as cards, die and playing pieces. There is no date on the catalogue but going by other adverts I have I would place this around 1979/1980.

Chip-Away sculpting sets
This 1972 advert from toy giant Kenner presents a comic strip view of their sculpting product Chip-Away Sets. You simply ‘chipped away’ at the soft outer layer of your block to reveal the pre-sculpted figure hidden inside! Once the outer layer is removed the figure is ready to paint with brushes and paints included in the set.
Chip-Away set as seen in the 1972 French Meccano catalogue général.
1983 Star Wars Bookmarks by Random House
This Return of the Jedi bookmark set, made by Random House in 1983, is one of my favourite collectables and manages to tick three themes I love: Star Wars, books and art. I think the stylish artwork on this full set has a certain art nouveau element as well as comic book style. I’ve tried to research the artist(s) responsible but have had no luck and can only guess it was done by in-house artists employed by Random House – one of the largest trade book publishers in the world.
