Barbie is a popular US fashion doll created by Ruth Handler. Launched by Mattel in 1959, Barbie was inspired by the 1955 German Bild Lilli doll which was created following Lilli’s success as a comic strip character. As well as Barbie dolls, accessories, play sets and vehicles, the brand has appeared in books, clothing, cosmetics, video games, animated films, and a range of household goods. Barbie (along with her boyfriend Ken) has also appeared in the Pixar films Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3.
