Curve Huggers by Tyco

Curve Huggers was a slot car racing track system sold by Tyco Industries. Popular in the 1970s, Curve Hugger cars were available with working lights and came in a number of different racing models. Track sets included the Laguna 2-in-1 Pro Racing, Nite-Glow Electric Racing, Tyco Championship 1000 – offering an enormous 37 feet of racing action, and the Road Race Empire – offering a whopping 54 feet of track action! Below are two US print adverts showing the Silver Streak and HP2 line of vehicles.

Scalextric – trade catalogues, part two

Scalextric is a leading brand of slot-car racing that was developed in the UK by Bentram “Freddie” Francis in 1957. Below are some scans and photographs taken from the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Scalextric trade catalogues. These high-quality industry catalogues are packed with amazing colour photographs of (the then) upcoming products. The copies I acquired included dealer suggested price lists, a poster, and a DVD. You can see part one here when I looked at the 1989, 1990 and 1991 catalogues. Click pics to enlarge.

Magnum 440 Slot Car Racing from Tyco

This 1981 Tyco ad for Magnum 440 slot cars offered a great promotional deal: kids were invited to bring along their Magnum 440 cars into their nearest participating toy shop and race them against other kids. Race winners could claim trophies and prizes and enter to win a free trip to a World Championship Grand Prix.
