Playmobil is produced by the German manufacturer Brandstätter Group and has been sold worldwide since its launch in 1974. Playmobil is known for its durable figures and play-sets based on historical and modern subjects.
The brand has so far managed to resist the lure of the big licences (Star Wars/Harry Potter/Marvel etc) and have stuck with their ‘traditional’ themes that continue to remain popular around the world. (2017 edit: this year Playmo have announced they are releasing Ghostbusters sets based on the original 80s films. Could this be the beginning of a Playmo adventure into 80s pop culture franchise land?)
