James Bond Aston martin DB5 first edition, gold version
The screen-innacurate gold coloured first edition version of the famous James Bond Aston Martin DB5, with ejector-seat baddie and other gadgets.
I’ve read that the reason for this strange colour choice was because the only silver paint Corgi had at the time was too similar to the base casting colour – leading to suspicions that some customers would believe the car hadn’t been painted at all! Later DB5 models were painted in a silver colour which Corgi managed to make distinct from the base metal.

As is so often the case with Corgi Toys, they produce the most beautiful product catalogues on the market. This 2004 TV, Film & Cartoon catalogue is no exception – 24 pages, A4, of wonderfully-presented pop-culture toy photography. Enjoy 🙂

My adverts section for Corgi Toys shows some cool superhero, film and TV-themed die cast vehicles, and I always knew that Corgi was spot on when it came to representing pop culture in its die cast range. Even so, I wasn’t quite prepared for the images that greeted me as I took hold of a copy of the Paris-based Fair Play Distribution Catalogue from 1980.
This A4 toy brochure aimed at shops and stores features more pop culture goodness than you can shake a Penguin umbrella at, including many fabulous point-of-sale store displays. If these toy units don’t take you back to happy childhood times spent at the toy shop buying cars then I don’t know what will. Simply amazing to see.
The catalogue also features Corgi’s regular die cast vehicle range, which will have to come in a separate post as there are just too many photos to show in one outing, and as Wooof correctly points out, TVTA readers may be in severe danger of a vintage-joy circuit overload. Enjoy the scans!

The latest haul of vintage comics to arrive at TVTA towers consisited of no less than 54 issues of Pif Gadget all dating from the late 70s! That’s enough vintage comics to wallpaper the great wall of China ten times over and big enough to see from Mars!!
Wooof and I have already started the long task of scanning some of the great ads found so far. Featured in this post are just a few from the haul – including big brand names such as Matchbox, Corgi, Britains and Solido. Also included are two English language ads found in the archives featuring BMX team Columbia and a really cool Monogram RC! Enjoy.
