I recently finished another Kinder Surprise Chocolate Egg Smurfs collection, having grabbed the final two figures I needed from a well known online auction site. The collection is called En Ville (in the city) and features our favourite blue friends in city character costumes. The collection premiered in the summer of 2018 and is a nice addition to the other Kinder Smurfs I have.

These aren’t from Kinder, they’re from McDonald’s fast food promotions, but they’re still pretty cool – especially the last set which came with little Smurf cottages!

I couldn’t leave without showing a handful of German catalogue pages for the original line of 1960s and onwards Smurfs figurines as made by Peyo. These were so cute, and I remember one of my younger brothers having a big collection of them.

I had no idea the Smurfs have been around this long.
Admittedly, I have never enjoyed a Kinder Egg.

Yes, our little blue friends have been around a while now. The chocloate in Kinder eggs is okay, very milky (I prefer dark), but it’s the toys I love most, and if you can catch an interesting collection at the time then it’s a treat to open them. Some of the toys can be a bit meh but mostly they’re good.

The last time I had a Kinder Surprise was when they had the Smurfs in them. Not these ones, I don’t think.
I actually tried watching the (fairly recent?) film recently with the kiddo, but he wasn’t really enjoying it, though… his mind was on painting. So we’ll go back to it.

That’s cool you found a Smurf in one of your Kinder Eggs. I saw one of the recent films and it was a bit strange seeing the live action blend rather than the old animation I remember, but still good fun.

Hi TVTA, I never had any Kinder edition Smurfs or any from McDonald’s but i did have a few from a petrol station offer that ran in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I think it was the ESSO service stations that had a promotion of “Spend £5 on fuel and get a special edition Smurf figure” I didn’t have a car but my mother somehow persuaded the station staff to sell a few to me anyway. I had a Smurf with a convertible sports car (red with yellow wheels) and a Smurf with a Hang-Glider! They were made of a heavy and quite rigid rubber. Sadly as happens when you move home and life happens I don’t have them anymore. I do remember collecting them was a big thing back in the day.

Hi FT. Great memories there! You’re right – it was the Esso promotion that ran through the early 80s. My aunt lived opposite one of the stations and would get the figures for my brother (she didn’t drive so I think you could claim some figures with purchases other than fuel).
The Smurfs were by made by Peyo (the original and best!), and my brother had the hang glider Smurf you mentioned too. In the end he had a very decent collection of them. I was more into toy soldiers, but I do remember my aunt got me the mechanic Smurf with his spanner and overalls, and a hiking Smurf wearing a rucksack. Happy memories 🙂

Hi again, while not toy related the Texaco company had a promotion for Nigel Mansell’s Indycar career and you could get a baseball cap in the Newman-Haas Race Team colours…being a Mansell fan I managed to convince the station attendant to sell me one too. I just had a thought…with your mechanic Smurf and my sports car Smurf we could have stuck a racing number on the car and started the Smurf Speedway Race Team!

Ha, good idea for the Smurf Speedway Race Team! They made about four cars according to my catalogue, so it’s race on! Plus, there’s a Smurf with a stop sign, and one that looks like a fire marshal. Pity they didn’t make one with a checkered flag!
I didn’t know about the Nigel Mansell offer, sounds good. He was really popular back in the 90s so I’m not surprised. I remember there were a lot of racing themed toys and video games based on him.

Hi again, Mansell (also known as Red 5) was a true racing great and was brave as a lion (he was also nicknamed “The Lion” by european fans). He even endorsed a range of timepieces by Zeon and as my graduation present my parents bought me one of those watches. I have a pair of Mansell scale model race cars (the Williams Renaults) by Burago (I think).

These are wonderful! Love the Smurfs, they are brilliant fun, great to see they are still being released like this. Fun to see some pictures of the original Smurfs as well, sure I’ve still got a couple of those somewhere. 🙂

I once ran a forum on Facebook for a smurf game. As a child I cut out all the smurf stories from lookin magazine coloured In a lot of them and put them in a scrap book. I had forgotten that till now. Lol. Your articles bring back so many lost memories. Thank you
