Pop Culture Advertising 1997 – 2018

TVTA puts aside its usual fare of vintage adverts for a moment to focus on some younger ads which embrace the pop culture of their older generations. We begin in our current year 2018 with an advert for a Tintin watch based on the character’s adventure Explorers on the Moon which was first published in Tintin magazine on 30 March 1950.

  1. Hi TVTA. Cool! Star Wars and WWe in one post. I have a Micro Machines C3PO playset which is Threepio’s head. It opens up (like a clamshell) to reveal the Star Wars Cantina inside. It even has a sliding mechanism so the Imperials can burst through the doorway. But I wish I had those WWe busts, they are nice. Did I mention I designed a lightsaber for Johnny Jeter of the WWe Spirit Squad? I used to chat with him on a forum and got to send him my design!

  2. Really enjoyed these – the Tintin watch and film festival posters are favourites. But it’s the WWE busts have really caught my eye, especially Kane. A few years earlier and I’d have been all over those!
