Pop Culture Advertising 1997 – 2018

TVTA puts aside its usual fare of vintage adverts for a moment to focus on some younger ads which embrace the pop culture of their older generations. We begin in our current year 2018 with an advert for a Tintin watch based on the character’s adventure Explorers on the Moon which was first published in Tintin magazine on 30 March 1950.

  1. Really enjoyed these – the Tintin watch and film festival posters are favourites. But it’s the WWE busts have really caught my eye, especially Kane. A few years earlier and I’d have been all over those!

  2. Hi TVTA. Cool! Star Wars and WWe in one post. I have a Micro Machines C3PO playset which is Threepio’s head. It opens up (like a clamshell) to reveal the Star Wars Cantina inside. It even has a sliding mechanism so the Imperials can burst through the doorway. But I wish I had those WWe busts, they are nice. Did I mention I designed a lightsaber for Johnny Jeter of the WWe Spirit Squad? I used to chat with him on a forum and got to send him my design!
