I remember so many of those 80s cartoons. I had the Ewoks comics, Popple’s comics, and Transformer comics from the time as well. Most of those cartoons were garbage, but a few still hold up today, like Jem. The M and M comic ad was very common back then, I think I remember it from some Superman comics.
I’ve got a Monchichi, still!

Hi. Yes I’ve seen the M and M’s ads often. That’s great you still have your Monchhichi! I saw some for some sale recently at a flea market. I have a fair few ads now for that cute little Japanese monkey here: https://thevintagetoyadvertiser.org/category/monchhichi-kiki-chic-a-boo/

Amazing! I used to love looking at comics when I was younger… I used to flick through the racks of a comic and book stall / area inside the Barrowlands when I would visit on a Saturday afternoon. Thatβs when I first discovered a lot of the lesser celebrated superheroes (like Daredevil). Anyhoo, I like that Daredevil cover and my favourite ad is easily the Hubba Bubba Gumfighting!! (Yeah, I was also Hubba Bubba kid!)

I love that Daredevil cover too and it’s one of the few comics I still have that survived from back in the day. Ah, Saturdays at the comic shop was always something to look forward to then. Yes… we had Hubba Bubba too, and also Bazooka Joe, remember that? I’m sure it came with a free sticker or transfer? Will have to go and look that one up.

I do remember some flaming hot gum ball thing that came with something like a sticker or transfer, but canβt remember the name.

Love these ads. Saturday morning programming ads were always fun. Too bad those days are gone.

Yes, was always a sweet deal spending Saturday morn in front of the TV then going straight out to play once the news and sports came on π

Hello TVTA, I remember a few of these comics. They also remind me of the VHS video compilations that were available in the 80’s. Cartoons similar to the ones shown on the “Kids Love Saturdays” advert were bundled up on 2-3 hour long videos and were popular in video rental shops here in the UK (and yes I remember Betamax format video tapes!). The parents hired the videos to keep their kids quiet for a few hours at a time. Some were good but others were a bit lower quality!

I remember Betamax format too. I have many happy memories of time spent in the video rental shop choosing titles. Always an event, especially for the weekend when you could get deals.
