Weird War Tales was an anthology series of war-related stories blended with sci-fi, horror and the paranormal. Each issue was hosted by a character called ‘Death’ who was often drawn wearing a different military uniform for each issue. Recurring characters such as the Creature Commandos, G.I. Robot, and The War That Time Forgot became regular stories. The original title ran from 1971 to 1983 across 124 issues. In 1997 it was revised as a four part series, and in 2000 a one-off special.

Classic Comic’s always amused me. A friend of mine have these, It was his fave, he actually made a safe for it. I find him a bit crazy, but once you’re a collector of DCs comic I guess you get crazy about it. That goes with the story as well.

I was given a bunch of these when I was younger. I read them over numerous times and enjoyed them.
I wonder if they have been collected into an anthology?

Hi TVTA, wow what a unique franchise. Wars can create and stir up enough horrors by themselves but the added aspect of haunted wars and sci-fi influences makes the prospect doubly daunting. I may pluck up the courage to search a copy out and take a look. Thanks (for potential nightmares) and I look forward to part two.

Hi FT. You’re right. Overall they were good short war stories with plenty of chill and weird factors thrown in.

Agree completely. Some of the covers are just amazingly cool. I still have my childhood issues plus the ones I’ve picked up later in life. Will get round to scanning more soon for a part two.
