She’s breaking up! She’s breaking up!
“Steve Austin, astronaut. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world’s first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster!” … so went the opening lines from the Six Million Dollar man TV series.
The Six Million Dollar Man toy was a 13″ action figure with cool accessories like car engines and girders for him to lift up with his bionic hand and arm! Peel back the rubbery skin on his arm and leg to reveal removable bionic modules! The doll also featured a bionic eye (which I recall always made objects appear farther away instead of closer!)
Made by Kenner in the US in 1975, The ‘Steve Austin’ doll was based on the popular TV show starring Lee Majors and was licensed around the world. Meccano held the license in France, Denys Fisher in the UK – to name two.
Other figures in the range included a Jaime / Jamie Sommers doll – the Bionic Woman (a separate TV series was made for this character), Oscar Goldman, Maskatron, Bigfoot and a number of accessories and play-sets.
